 History of the rupee

The word rūpiya is gotten from the Sanskrit word rūpya, which signifies "fashioned silver, a coin of silver",[4] in beginning a descriptor signifying "shapely", with a more explicit significance of "stepped, dazzled", whence "coin". 1948

1953

1957

Rs 5, Rs 10 and Rs 100 notes were redesigned and SBP added Rs 15.

1964

1975

We have redesigned all the notes and the one rupee note has been slightly changed by the Government of Pakistan.

                                                                                      

1981

The government of Pakistan once again changed the design of RS.1 rupee note.

1986

State Bank of Pakistan reintroduces Rs 2 note, Rs 500 note exchanged, Rs 1,000 note issued this year.

1997

State Bank of Pakistan issues special note on the 50th Independence Day of Pakistan.

2005-06

In 2005, a Rs. 20 note was introduced. While in 2006 the previous currency note was redesigned, a Rs. 5000 note was introduced in 2006.

2008

New Rs. 5 and Rs. 50 notes were issued from where .. Rs. 10 notes were redesigned again due to some confusion and financial losses.
